Rance Howard played many small roles, such as a party goer, bus driver, the governor's driver, treasury agent and others.
Allan Melvin, 8 episodes and 8 different characters
Yup..mary lansing 13
Thanks
Allan Melvin has always fascinated me. Not only was a character actor, he landed parts on Bilko, Gomer Pyle, The Brady Bunch and All In The Family but you mention his name and people respond "Huh? Who is that?"
Magilla gorilla too
@@ronsimko7137 I didn't know that Allan Melvin was the voice of Magilla Gorilla. Howard Morris (Ernest T. Bass on Andy Griffith) did the voice of Mr. Peebles on Magilla Gorilla. Thanks for the info.
Loved Burt Muston!
Also, Barney busting through the wall dressed as a lady was just genius, classic comedy😂😂😂
I love your Christian-inspired shirts Bob!❤
Alan Melvin also played on " Sgt. Bilko" with Phil Silvers!- Michael McClary, Professor of Trumpet 🎺, Georgia Perimeter College and GSU.😅
Was Alan Melvin playing two different characters on "Gomer Pyle, USMC? One as the Mess Hall Sergeant and the other as Sgt. Carter's rival, the other as another Platoon Sergeant? I have kind of wondered what was going on there. Or was Alan Melvin playing the same Character in both Roles?
Did a video on him
Was same character
Alan made his television debut on Bilko.
I loved her when Barney kicks thru the beauty shop wall from the bank and she was so calm and just says "on a case Barney?" '
Mary Lansing played a lot of characters on the andy griffith show I liked her as Mrs emit clark and miss lukins good video bob
Thanks
It was great that with all the years being in the background on TAGS she finally got to be more involved with her role as Martha Clark.
Like I always say,I learn something about the Andy Griffith Show all the time. Mary Lansing did play many parts and didn't realize it. Always remember her as Marthat Clark, Emmitt's wife. Thanks again Bob!😊
Saw a nice Ron Howard interview on Conan's podcast and he spoke a lot about TAGS.
I DON'T remember who he was interviewed by but Ron Howard sounded like he was getting a little burnt out on acting between the time he was on TAGS and by the time he started on "Happy Days."
Thanks Bob for this AGS F & T segment. This was a great segment on a bit part player who played 13 different citizens on Mayberry to take the title with the most roles.
Interesting video. TAGS was great and utilized character's to play different roles. Thank you. God Bless everyone. Melanie
They put a pair of glasses on Ernest T and called him the TV repair man.
He was also leonard blush, the radio announcer and directed several episodes
Hi Bob very interesting video. Thank you God Bless Much Love Jean
Interesting, as always, Bob. I'd love to learn more about The Darlings/Dillards.
Will do
i would have never guessed this in a million years.
Mary Lansing I remember played a ton of different characters all the way to the end of the show. She even played Emmett’s wife. She was on there a lot even if for brief moments. I was discussing her a few weeks ago with my husband and all her characters. I had thought she played the most. Ironic you did this video mentioning her. 🏆
Out of sight ,out of mind. Amazing. Great video. 👍
Thanks Jeff
Really enjoyed this one, Bob. Thanks! I also would have guessed Allan Melvin, but Mary Lansing definitely beat him out. I saw Melvin at a seminar once in Beverly Hills showcasing Hanna Barbera voice actors and included both Howard Morris and TAGS alum Janet Waldo. During Q & A, an audience member asked Melvin if he preferred working on TAGS or THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW more. He answered that both were a pleasure to work on and he was always grateful when they asked him to come back. He seemed like a very nice man and not one to beat up Barney or Howard in real life.
I never really thought of TAGS having a pseudo rep company, though it seems to have been a fairly common practice. Barney Miller and Dragnet come to mind as shows that used the same actors in a variety of roles (odd...all are cop shows).
I remember Apple's Way.
I remember it as a good show
Mary Lansing does look familiar 😅. I bet she was glad she had steady work. Even if she was never the same person twice. 😂
She actually played Martha Clark three times in season 8 of AGS.
Im sure was under contract so she at least had steady pay
Allan Melvin is recognized by many as Sam, the butcher, on The Brady Bunch yet he only appeared eight times on that show.
Interesting video Bob, thanks.
Thank YOU!
That was interesting! Thanks Bob
Character Actor. word phrase, your looking for.
As old as I am I don't remember "Apple's Way" I don't think I've ever even heard of it. I like the tittle it's sounds like a show I probably would have liked I wonder how that got by me? Strange
❤
I am subscribed… You do nice work Bob. I haven’t seen all your videos, but have you done some thing on
Amzie Strickland? She is my all-time favorite character actress. Between the Andy Griffith show and the Dick Van Dyke show it seems she was pretty busy with just those two shows. But even after those two shows, she just kept showing up She even made an
appearance in pretty woman.
About 25 years ago, I worked with a guy in a department store, who was also trying to be an actor, he had a few bit rolls here and there. When I mentioned Amzie, he had met her, and she was considered Hollywood Gold, by her peers. Really well thought of.
Will look into her...thanks for subscribing!
Mary Lansing
How do you do it Bob? Thanks!!!
Thank YOU! God bless
What was the actor's name who played Fred in The Grocery Store who was going to beat up Barney the army recruiter in the Earnest T Bass episode. he played, he played Doc Malloy, he played the house detective, he played Mrs Litch the stolen car lady, played the vegetable vendor on the side of the road, the fugitive Barney let go out in the woods,
Question:
Was the Darlin Boys ever in real Bands or play for Famous Singers?
Before watching the video I'm going to guess Bob McQuain. Let's see if I'm right.
Frank Ferguson?
❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
Hope you have a great day Wanda
🙋♂️🙏
I think Parley Baer has to be one of the most prolific ancillary character actors in show business - although, he only played Mayor Stoner on AGS.
He did play a few mayors though in other shows
He also played Chester on the radio version of Gunsmoke. William Conrad played Matt Dillon and Howard McNear played Doc Adams, really fun to listen to on Old Time Radio.
@@johncunningham8798 William Conrad
@@johncunningham8798 He played almost 300 characters throughout his career. He was one of the most recognizable actors in show business for decades.
@@johncunningham8798Great info… thanks!
Great show and great topic, Bob. I thought for sure it would have been Allan Melvin.
There were so many actors who kept showing up in different parts on the show. Same was true on most sitcoms of the time.
Bewitched always had Doc from Love boat and he was always different characters.
Dragnet(not a sitcom) was one of the worst offenders. Same actors played different parts every week.
I was stumped Bob. Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it Larry
🤓😎✌🏼
Back when studios had actors on retainer and used them frequently. I often wonder how well these ancillary character actors did financially with staying busy but seldom playing important parts.
Probably more than we think
I had an apples way lunch box lol I loved that show!
Call me a nerd cause I gotta say....that just too cool!
what it is most people hear main story not pay attention recurring side people.
True..it seemed to work on the andy griffith show anyway
The lack of continuity can be rather confusing on some shows. No wonder others such as soap operas had bibles to keep things straight. Yet not all did so. After all those characters, it's nice that she finally got a more permanent role. I remember Apple's Way too. Dragnet is another show that often used the same guest stars but as different characters. The Love Boat did it big time.
Great one Bob !! I Never realized that was her in alot of those episodes. Especially when Barney goes thru the bank wall. But I do remember her name alot in the credits.
I forgot about APPLES WAY. 😊
Who played the 30something town lady?
Shes often seen crossing the road, among assembled onlookers like citizens arrest, otis rides a cow, etc
She never utters a syllable but gets lotsa crowd face time
Dunno..will look into it
@@theandygriffithshowfactsan3585 thx bob, may be her only part... ya know the face I'm referring to?
She's up there with nice dressed Nellie
Emmett Clark was dull as dishwasher to me.
Yup
Who played the town lady with the long black hair?
She's commonly seen crossing the street, among assembled.crowds on citizens arrest, ellie for town council, otis riding a cow, etc
No, she never utters a syllable, but gets lotsa crowd face time
Also, he was very annoying and not funny.
That's what made him a good "contrast character" for the sake of realism. Everyone on the show can't be nice, funny, colorful etc somewhere there's got to be the pest or grump or annoying person.
@@aschule5684 Good point.
